| Item Description | Fūjin and Raijin are traditional Japanese deities, often depicted dynamically dancing atop the clouds. Fūjin, the god of wind, releases powerful gusts from the bag he carries on his back, while Raijin, the god of thunder, strikes the drums behind him to create thunder. These motifs are also popular in tenugui designs and are believed to symbolize the forces of nature as well as provide meanings such as protection from misfortune, bountiful harvests, and safeguarding against disasters. The foil-pressed tenugui uses gold-colored aluminum foil dyed onto the fabric. The foil does not peel off when washed, allowing it to be used like a regular tenugui, and its long-lasting gold is appreciated as a symbol of good luck. Because the dyeing is done by hand, each tenugui has slight variations, giving it a unique, one-of-a-kind charm. The back side is plain with no print penetration. The front features a gold-foil silk screen design only. |
