Item Description | The Chōjū-Jinbutsu-Giga (Scrolls of Frolicking Animals and Humans), a designated National Treasure of Japan, is a famous set of ink paintings preserved at Kōzan-ji Temple in Kyoto. Often regarded as the origin of Japanese manga, the expressive, whimsical animals—drawn with masterful brushwork—continue to captivate people across generations. Inspired by Kōzan-ji's fame as a spot for autumn foliage, the design features golden maple leaves. It also includes scattered Rikyū-bai plum blossoms, referencing the temple's historic connection to Japan's oldest tea garden and the tea ceremony. At the center is a large circle representing a lotus-leaf target seen in the original scroll, surrounded by lively animals full of charm and movement. The fabric has a crisp, smooth texture and a fine, linen-like surface with subtle raised patterns. It's perfect for use as a tapestry, cushion cover, tablecloth, or for wrapping gifts. This item is an officially certified product of Kōzan-ji Temple, and comes with an authorized paper band bearing the temple's certification mark. |
