Item Description | "Kyoku-temari" is a traditional Japanese acrobatic performance in which entertainers kick or bounce decorative balls as part of a show. This artwork, created by Utagawa Kuniyoshi—well-known for his love of cats—features anthropomorphized felines performing the act, inspired by the popular Edo-period performer Kikugawa Kunimaru. The piece depicts charming scenes such as "Yaezakura," where a ball is skillfully rolled across the cat’s body, and "Midair Ball Kick across Stakes," where a cat hops across stakes while adorably kicking a ball with its feet. |
