Tenugui Tōryūmon (Carp Passing Through the Dragon Gate), 35 x 100 cm

This tenugui is crafted using the shinto-zome (penetrating dyeing technique), which allows the design to be vividly expressed all the way through to the reverse side of the fabric.
The pattern features the legendary "Climbing Carp" (Nobori Koi) motif. According to an ancient Chinese legend, a carp that successfully swims up the rapids of the Dragon Gate in the Yellow River transforms into a dragon. This story has long been cherished in Japan, where the climbing carp symbolizes success, achievement, and rising in life.
The design is richly dyed using seven vibrant colors, creating a striking and luxurious finish. It combines traditional symbolism with vivid artistry, making it both auspicious and visually captivating.

- As this is a handmade product, slight variations in size may occur.
- Due to the nature of the dye, some changes in color and slight bleeding may appear. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of hand-dyed items.
- Colors may transfer if exposed to water, sweat, etc. Please wash separately.
- When ironing, use a low temperature and place a cloth over the fabric.
- Traditionally, both edges of a tenugui are left unfinished to allow faster drying and for hygiene purposes. With use and washing, the fabric naturally tightens, and any fraying will stop after a few millimeters.
