description Product Description

This Foil-Stamped Tenugui features the world-renowned masterpiece "Wind God and Thunder God Folding Screen" by Tawaraya Sōtatsu. The dynamic composition depicts Fūjin, the Wind God, gracefully gliding through the sky with his wind bag unfurled, and Raijin, the Thunder God, stamping his feet with power while carrying drums that roar with thunder. The bold yet elegant design is further enhanced with shimmering gold foil, creating a finish that is both majestic and refined.
Crafted with aluminum-based golden foil, the design is dyed directly into the fabric. The foil will not peel off even after washing, allowing it to be used as a practical tenugui. Because the gold never "falls off," it is celebrated as a symbol of prosperity and good fortune, making it popular as a decorative item, auspicious charm, or a thoughtful gift for greetings and special occasions.
Since ancient times, the Wind and Thunder Gods have embodied the Japanese reverence for nature. They are considered deities who ward off misfortune, bring rain for bountiful harvests, repel evil, grant success, and protect against natural disasters. This tenugui harmonizes traditional classical beauty with everyday utility, making it a piece that can be displayed year-round as an auspicious decoration.
The pattern is faintly visible on the reverse side, adding to its authentic handcrafted charm.

Notes
- As this is a handmade product, slight variations in size may occur.
- Due to the nature of the dye, some changes in color and slight bleeding may appear. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of hand-dyed items.
- Colors may transfer if exposed to water, sweat, etc. Please wash separately.
- When ironing, use a low temperature and place a cloth over the fabric.
- Traditionally, both edges of a tenugui are left unfinished to allow faster drying and for hygiene purposes. With use and washing, the fabric naturally tightens, and any fraying will stop after a few millimeters.
