description Product Description

Beautifully screen-printed so the colors penetrate clearly through to the reverse side.

[Officially Certified by Kōzan-ji Temple]
This tenugui (traditional Japanese hand towel) features designs from the National Treasure "Chōjū-Jinbutsu-Giga" (Scrolls of Frolicking Animals and People).
Based on the lively depictions of rabbits, frogs, and other animals, it illustrates a joyful banquet scene — from preparations, to merrymaking, to ending in drunken slumber — expressed with a smooth gradient.

In Japan, sake was originally brewed as an offering to the gods. At these festivals, people gathered to present sake to the deities, drink together, and, through intoxication, some would become possessed by the gods and deliver divine messages to the people.
This tenugui captures the essence of this important sacred tradition — brewing and sharing sake as a way to draw closer to the gods — in a single piece of art.

Caution
- As each item is handmade, slight variations in size may occur.
- Due to the nature of the dyes, variations in color and slight bleeding may occur. Please enjoy these as part of the unique charm of hand-dyeing.
- Colors may transfer when exposed to water, sweat, etc. We recommend washing separately.
- When using an iron, set it to a low temperature and always use a pressing cloth.
- Traditionally, both ends of a tenugui are left unfinished to allow them to dry quickly and maintain better hygiene.
- With repeated washing, the fabric will tighten and fraying will naturally stop after a few millimeters.
